Parallel Session: Chiral Gauge Theories

Thursday July 1st, 14.30 - 14.50, Room 8

Global Anomalies and Lattice Gauge Theory

Abstract: As has recently been shown, the formulation of chiral gauge theories with anomaly free multiplets of Weyl fermoins is possible on the lattice. In particular, the gauge invariance of the effective action is achieved compensating the anomalous term by the contribution of the term arising from the non-gauge invariance of the integration measure. However, global anomalies still may arise due to the non-triviality of the orbit space. The significance and properties of this measure term are discussed in the case of the Witten anomaly.
