QCD on $\alpha$-Clusters
Abstract: It is demonstrated that the 21264 $\alpha$-processor can reach about 20\% sustained efficiency for the inversion of the Wilson-Dirac operator. It appears that fast ethernet is not sufficient to achieve a computation dominated situation on adequate lattice and system sizes. We show that using a Myrinet interconnection one can achieve a balance between computation and communication. The price/performance ratio lies in the range of specialized lattice QCD compute engines.
