Impact of Suppression of $Z_2$-Monopoles and Vortices on the SU(2) Deconfinement Phase Transition for the Mixed Action

Abstract: Adding separate chemical potentials $\lambda$ and $\gamma$ for $Z_2$-monopoles and vortices respectively in the Villain form of the mixed fundamental-adjoint action for the SU(2) lattice gauge theory, we investigate their impact on the deconfinement phase transition using Monte Carlo techniques in order to understand the relationship of the deconfinement phase transition with the known bulk transitions. Setting either $\lambda$ or $\gamma$ to be nonzero, we find that the deconfinement transition is shifted in the coupling plane but its curious coincidence with the bulk transition line continues. However, for nonzero and large $\lambda$, we find two separate transitions in a narrow range of couplings, thus confirming the presence of both. In the limit of large $\lambda$ and $\gamma$, we obtain only a line of second order deconfinement phase transitions, as expected from universality.
