Short Strings in the Abelian Higgs Model
Abstract: The existence of the power corrections to the quark-antiquark potential at short distances in QCD is under the question till now. Analytical considerations show that there are no reasons to expect such a corrections, since the picture of QCD string is not applicable here. From the other hand lattice calculations as well as recent theoretical developments suggest that linear corrections do exist, although the coefficient in front of linear term is still undetermined. Keeping in mind a well known dual superconductor picture of QCD vacuum, we consider the above question in the confining phase of abelian higgs model.By minimizing numerically the classical energy functional we observe a linear in r, stringy correction even at the distances much smaller than the apparent physical scale. We argue that this term is a manifestation of the condition that the monopoles are connected by a mathematically thin line along which the scalar field vanishes. These short strings modify the operator product expansion as well.
