Towards a determination of light quark masses from lattice gauge theory
Abstract: Using the $O(a)$ Symanzik improved action and the Alpha Collaboration determination of the renormalisation constant a non-perturbative estimate is given for the strange quark mass in quenched QCD. Numerical results have been obtained at three lattice spacings. For each spacing, four (or more) bare quark masses are used to enable first the chiral extrapolation and secondly the continuum extrapolation. We briefly discuss the reliability of using a tadpole improved perturbative renormalisation constant. A comparison is also made with the result from Wilson fermions.
