Feasibility study of using the overlap-Dirac operator to calculate hadron spectroscopy
Abstract: The overlap-Dirac fermion action, proposed by Neuberger, is an explicit solution of the Ginsparg-Wilson relation, so is thought to have improved chiral behaviour over the standard fermion actions: Wilson, clover, and staggered. The numerical calculation of the overlap-Dirac fermion matrix is very computationally demanding. To use the overlap-Dirac operator in hadron spectroscopy calculations we need to be able to calculate quark propagators. We investigate a number of algorithms that calculate overlap-Dirac quark propagators based on a Lanczos procedure and various rational approximations to the step functions. Our QCD simulations are performed at beta = 5.86 with a lattice volume of 16**3x32.
