Parallel Session: Electroweak Phase Transition

Thursday July 1st, 16.40 - 17.00, Room 6

Abelian hard thermal loops on a lattice

Abstract: To first approximation, the dynamics of a hot gauge theory is given by the hard thermal loop effective action. Although it is non-local, it can be transformed into a local form by adding extra degrees of freedom. I show that in Abelian theories one can reduce the number of necessary degrees of freedom significantly with a redefinition of the fields. This leads to a dramatic improvement in the efficiency of simulations. I discuss the implications for simulating the non-equilibrium dynamics of the phase transition in the Abelian Higgs model.
