Hard thermal loops and the sphaleron rate on the lattice

Abstract: Hard thermal loop effective theories can be used to compute real time correlation functions on the lattice, provided that the coupling constant is weak (as in the electroweak theory). We measure the sphaleron rate in hot SU(2) gauge theory, relevant for the baryon number violation in the early Universe. The hard degrees of freedom are taken into account as a local density field (Blaizot-Iancu formalism). Our results support the Arnold-Son-Yaffe conjecture, the rate $\propto g^{10} T^4$.
