Light quark masses in quenched QCD
Abstract: We discuss a strategy to compute the light quark masses using lattice QCD combined with chiral perturbation theory. As a test case we determine the strange quark mass in the quenched approximation. Using full O($a$) improvement and the non-perturbative mass renormalization of the ALPHA-collaboration, precise results are obtained for 4 different values of the lattice spacing. After extrapolation to the continuum, the renormalization group invariant quark mass is obtained with 4\% overall error. MS-bar masses for finite renormalization scales $\mu$ can be obtained through perturbative conversion factors known up to 4-loop precision.
