Reaching Pisa by air

The G. Galilei Airport of Pisa is connected by frequent urban bus service to the center of Pisa, which is less than 2 km away. Public bus #3, passing in front of the airport, makes a stop just across the bridge (Ponte della Vittoria) from Palazzo dei Congressi. A number of daily flights link Pisa to major Italian cities, as well as to London, Munich and Paris.

Arrival at other Italian airports

Participants whose flight itinerary ends in Florence, Milan or Rome, may continue on to Pisa by train. Train timetables can be obtained through FS on-line.

Getting to the conference site

[Map of central Pisa]

The Palazzo dei Congressi is on the northern bank of Pisa's river Arno, right by the bridge Ponte della Vittoria. It can be easily reached on foot (15 minutes) or by car from the central bridge (Ponte di Mezzo), by simply heading east along Lungarno (the road running along the banks of Arno) until the second bridge one encounters. Buses #7 and #14 from the railway station stop nearby. Taxi fare from the airport or railway station runs around 10,000 - 15,000 lire.

Free transport from the airport and railway station to Palazzo dei Congressi and afterwards to the hotels will be provided, upon request, during peak arrival times; further information will be announced a few weeks before the conference.

A note on urban buses:Tickets are not sold on the buses; they must be purchased beforehand and time-stamped inside the bus. One ticket costs 1500 lire. A plan of urban buses is available online.

A travel service desk will be available on-site during the first days of the conference, for help with travel arrangements and information.

[Map of road connections to Pisa]

The easiest road to the Palazzo dei Congressi is marked in red on the central part of the map above.

If you reach Pisa by the A12 expressway, exit at Pisa centro and follow the directions for centro città. This will set you on the Firenze-Pisa SGC (Raccordo on the map above).

If you reach Pisa by Florence, take the Firenze-Pisa SGC (Superstrada on the map above).

In both cases, exit at the intersection with Via Aurelia (SS 1); proceed in the direction of Viareggio/Genova (north) until you cross the river Arno; just after the bridge, at a traffic light, turn right; follow the north shore of the river to the Palazzo dei Congressi.
