Quantum Spin Formulation of the Principal Chiral Model
Abstract: We formulate the SU(N)*SU(N) principal chiral model in two dimensions as a quantum spin model with an additional unphysical time direction. The choice of a particular representation for the quantum spin operators allows us to take the large N limit, in which we calculate the correlation length at low T. In this formulation we find that SU(N)_L*SU(N)_R does not appear to break to SU(N)_V at T=0.
